The Importance of Keyword Research for Internet Marketing

The world of internet marketing is treacherous and slippery, yet you must learn to navigate it well for your business to stay afloat. Having keywords may not be enough to give your enterprise the visibility that it requires. Google reports that it receives a hundred billion search queries every month, but many online visitors scan only the first page of the search results.

The Importance of Keyword Research for Internet Marketing

This implies that for your website to stand a chance of ranking high on search engine returns, you need to optimize your keywords. It is not a matter of stuffing your site with keywords and phrases but you need the right words to use, and this requires a keyword research.

Here is the importance of keyword research for internet marketing:

Helps in drawing qualified traffic to your website
It doesn’t help to have many clicks on your site but from unwanted quarters. People looking for office shoes should not accidentally land on your site that sells boats or kayaks. Keyword research helps you determine the words and phrases that most people looking for your products tend to type into the search bar. It is; therefore, great to drive only qualified traffic to your site.

Keeping the interest of online visitors
Online visitors are likely to linger more on your site if it yields content that closely matches the object of their search. To prevent your visitors from hitting the exit button without further ado, you should use keywords that are optimised for the product you have on offer. Do some research to find out which words and phrases people are likely to use when searching for a particular item or information.

Ranking higher in search engine results
A single random word typed into the search engine will bring up thousands of results that spread onto tens, or even hundreds of search engine pages. You will be interested to know that many online visitors hardly ever flip the search engine pages. If something is not on the first page, then it doesn’t exist. To gain visibility, you need to ensure that your keywords would push your website onto the first page of search results. The research will be your best bet as the only option of finding out which words or phrases are likely to be typed into search bars.

Uncovering hidden opportunities
A proper keyword research may turn up scores of terms that include a few unanticipated keywords that prove to be a gold mine. Such keywords are usually the recipients of significant internet traffic, and they have little or no competition at all. Keyword research; therefore, may increase the returns on your web marketing business.

Cost effective
Keyword research may consist of a list of terms to use. It also includes traffic and competitive estimates of each keyword, enabling you to allocate your resources. You can then train your resources on those terms that attract enough traffic and have little competition rather than relying on a top ranking keyword that has 200,000 other companies scrambling. Through research, you may also discover negative keywords; hence, generating huge savings on advertising campaigns.

Essential tools of trade
Keyword research is an important means of trade because it helps you generate revenues from your website. It is; therefore, just as important as the web browser you are using. You will realise that any source of information for your business or customers make for potential keywords. It will also help you to divert from common keywords to related terms. If people are searching for TVs, they may also look up DVD players.

The importance of keyword research for internet marketing cannot be gainsaid. Your business will be profitable if search engines can rank them higher in search results. You need keywords that attract the right traffic to your site. It is; therefore, an essential marketing tool for any business.

Lynne Huysamen

Mommy to a pigeon pair, blogger and online marketer. Lover of chocolate, good books and buckets of coffee.

  1. Hi Lynne, Luther Wood, here. I think I told you I was attempting Wealthy Affiliate in 2015 and was following you. I couldn’t get a website up that would work, so, I dropped out ranked under 100 and I was Premium.

Now, Kyle will not allow me to come back unless I come in at Premium, not free.
    What do you think?

    • Hi Luther

I am so sorry to take so long to reply! I was off camping with my kids and had no internet access since Thursday πŸ™‚

Yes I do understand that is how it works. You can stay a starter member for as long as you like, but once you go Premium you cannot then go back to a starter account. You would have to discuss that with Kyle or Carson though as I am not sure of all the exact details.

I am sure it must be a pain for you, but that is the deal and you do receive so much for free from them when you have the starter account.

The Premium account is awesome and I believe that it is best to have the Premium account anyway, but if you are low on cash I totally understand it can be a bit of an expense.

  2. Hi Lynne, Yes. the above mentioned is right. Keyword research plays an important role in internet marketing.

That’s why education is important. I learn about keyword research from Wealthy Affiliate. The first things I do is Keyword research before writing my article.

Without Keyword research I could say very difficult to rank if there is high competition.

Thanks, Lynne, I will bookmark for the future refresher again.

    • Hey Maax

I love SEO and ranking, it is just like an awesome puzzle πŸ™‚ It is such a cool challenge and for me the starting point is always keyword research.

  3. Lynne, I completely understand your time restraints. As much time that you invest in your business and helping others, you deserve as much time as you can afford to be with family and to recharge yourself.

Sorry to waste your time. I’m at a place that I don’t know what to do. I’m disappointed, confused, and just plain worn out with this whole Internet marketing thing. I really respect the people that know how it works and works it to make some decent money.

This is the only thing that I have attempted that I have not mastered. I think one thing that gets me is not having access to people personally. I am a people person and creative and miss the interaction with them. I learn by watching and doing, then putting my spin on the information and make it mine.

Thank you for your precious time. God Bless you.

    • Luther you CAN do it without Wealthy Affiliate if you are really committed. Of course it is much easier having WA where everything is at your finger tips.

There is a lot to learn but the basics are really simple. Make sure you have chosen a niche that you are passionate about and that you can provide value. I really feel that this is vital, so many people go for the make money online niche because they think it will make them money, but it won’t. Not unless you are really passionate about what you are doing and you are doing it because you love it and want to share what you know.

From then write on your websites regularly and learn a little bit about how to write for SEO plus of course keyword research will help you loads… yes there is more to know but those are the basics and you can do all that for free or almost for free.

I do suggest you get your own domain and your own hosting… which can cost as little as $12 a year for the domain and about $5 a month for hosting. You can also choose to set up a free website with Wix or Weebly for example but once again you are limiting yourself to what you can do.

If you get your own domain and hosting you can blog as often or as little as you like and maybe at some stage even join WA again. It really is up to you.

There is just one thing I wouldn’t give up on and that is you dream to work online πŸ™‚
