When you start a business, at the beginning, you probably only have to think about yourself. After all, you are the engine and the captain sailing the ship of your business and deciding the route you want to go. But like any successful small business, you grow, and sometimes that means you growing into new premises, expanding your range and hiring actual staff. Safety first

One of the first things you could consider doing is ensuring you have a decent health and safety policy in place for your team. Employees expect to have their welfare taken care of and at the heart of any business as they head to work and do their jobs for you each day. A health and safety policy and coming up with Occupational Safety Solutions will help you ensure that the environment in which they work in, the tools in which they use, and any other factors affecting people are in line with guidelines that you have agreed upon.

Discussing goals and targets regularly

People like to know where they are at in terms of targets and how they are working for you. We like to know if we are doing a good job, can take on any improvements recommendations and hopefully be up to speed in terms of any earning potential. So regular catch ups with your team to discuss goals and targets will help you keep in touch in that area. This is when using talent analytics systems can help you to decipher what may have worked with your staff member, and what night need to be focussed on. Constructive feedback can go a long way, and training can help them to feel like a valued member of the team. It also works as a motivator to keep morale up.

Incentivising them

Everyone loves an incentive, so if you feel that morale needs a boost or if you want to get a little more out of your team why not think of including some sort of incentive to sweeten the deal? Many sales floors have spot prizes for things such as the next sale coming to the business or the next deal to be done. It could be simple things like a bottle of wine or cash prices, depending on what your business does. But it can certainly change the atmosphere.

Flexible working

Let’s be honest, there is so much for any one of us to juggle these days, that if you can be an employer that offers a little flexibility in terms of working hours and life then you are really going to be helping your employees and yourself. Giving a little, allowing people to work from home, or just making up hours during the week at their own pace could be the ideal steps to take to incorporate some flexible working options into the workplace.

Being approachable and a people person

Finally, being approachable and listening doesn’t take much from you, but could mean the world to someone who is discussing their job and/or confiding in you. Being approachable and a people person doesn’t cost money, it is about caring for the people who work for you and allowing them to feel comfortable in your presence.

Let’s hope that this has given you some insight on how you can take better care of your employees.
