The current global crisis changed the way people communicate and socialize. More time at home means more time online and a new focus on things we never tried before for a number of reasons. There’s plenty of courses you can find on the internet and learn a new skill or hone what you already know.
I recently stumbled upon the College of English Language and wanted to find out more about the benefits of taking some classes and try to improve my knowledge. Here are a few reasons why you should apply for English classes today:
Communication via apps is how people talk these days mostly, whether for business or pleasure, now you can click and talk to people from all over the world. Still, in order to be able to discuss politics, weather, sports, or culture, you need to make sure your level of English is decent.
Sure, you can passively soak in a lot by listening to music, watching movies, etc, but it’s better to learn from professionals who know exactly how much you know and what you need to work on. One of the simplest ways to break the ice is to have a professional talk to you via Skype or Zoom for example.
This way you won’t feel uncomfortable because you are here to learn, and you’ll receive direct input on how you are doing. Once you take a few classes you’ll feel much more confident to go a step further and work even more on your English. It’s fun and useful at the same time, and the number of opportunities to meet new people or find work increase dramatically.
From English School to a New Workplace
New contacts aside, English is the language of business and if you want your partners to take you seriously it’s not enough to only have good ideas, but to be able to present them in a way to make them sound good. The sooner you start the more time you will have to practice and soon enough you will be able to speak and write in English.
The idea is to apply for a school of English and build a strong foundation there on which you will only build additional knowledge and with regular practice and determination, you’d be even more competent than some native speakers who never really thought they needed to improve. In reality, being able to use a language is a skill that needs to be worked on constantly. Both in terms of staying in shape and embracing new trends because a language is subject to constant change and you should remember to keep up.
How to Start?
It’s never easy to start something new, and it’s normal to feel intimidated. You shouldn’t be though because English is really fun to learn, and the fact that you can find it almost anywhere around you makes things easier. English classes are still the fastest way to learn and practice. The fact that you can do it from the comfort of your home is even better. Start by simply applying because learning something new or improving what you already know is always a good decision.
You can ask a friend because it’s always better in good company, and after the lessons are over you two can practice and help each other out prepare for the next class. Just like in school, but more fun. This way you will feel responsible both for yourself and your friend to not quit. Some people like to make a list of goals and then follow their progress visually, this is good because you can see how much time you needed to cross everything from the list.
