Even when a business does have the funding for paid traffic campaigns it is very important to ensure that your are getting a ROI (return on investment), otherwise you are working at a loss and throwing your money away.

This type of traffic is going to take a bit of time to get going. You will need to create high quality, unique and relevant content that targets the search terms that your potential customers are searching for.

The starting point is to conduct keyword research – I recommend using Jaaxy keyword tool for this. It is the keyword tool that I use because I believe it is the most powerful and great value for money.

It is free to join social media platforms and many you are probably already on. I recommend that you join the 6 of largest social media channels: Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Google Plus, Pinterest and Instagram.

By having a profile on each social media channel for your website you are creating authority for your business and when you start getting followers and sharing your content you will start getting traffic to your website. Social media traffic will most likely be your first source of traffic since it is something you can start immediately.

Get Onto Youtube

Video  marketing is massive and you don’t have to be an expert to create Youtube videos. If you don’t want to be on video you can use a free animation program to make an animated video such as Biteable.

Youtube search has become very popular with many people skipping Google completely and making Youtube their go to place to find content. If you are not on Youtube you are losing out on huge traffic potential.

Make sure to SEO your Youtube videos so gain Youtube search traffic.

Host A Giveaway

Everyone loves a freebie so make sure to run some on your website – promote the giveaway on social media to get people to your website. This is a sure way to kick start traffic on your blog as well as to start gaining some social media followers.

Make sure that you get your readers to enter a form on your website to enter the competition so that you have their details to add to your list.

One of the best ways to get free traffic is email marketing. When you get some visitors to your website its great but what is going to bring those readers back again? There are great benefits associated with guest blogging. You will gain a relevant backlink to your website which is very helpful for your SEO and ranking your website higher. In addition to that you will get traffic and be exposed to new readers. This will help to build your reputation as an authority in your niche.

  1. This is a great article, since it explains perfectly what you can do to drive traffic to your site, either if it is a new one or already older.

    Now, I have a site, and I have problems to drive traffic to my site, I do the SEO tools, such as Jaaxy (which is such a good keyword tool), and I put every post I make on Pinterest, Instagram, and Facebook.

    But even then, I’m not having lots of traffic, and sometimes I lose courage, but then I think by myself, I have to keep going, and sooner or later I can make it.

    And accidently I came across your post, which has even more ways to drive free traffic.

    So I will do the e-mailmarketing, and start guest blogs, since it will be a good way to drive traffic to my site.

    • Emmanuel it does take a long time to build up your traffic and your SEO if your website is quite new but it will happen. For me personally it felt like forever until I started to get traffic and this blog doesn’t get a massive amount of traffic really because it is my hobby, but my main business I now get 1000 – 2000 visitors a day, sometimes more. It took a long time to get there but just persist at it.

I am on Facebook already with my site, but as you wrote that Pinterest is your main source, now I will give it a try.     Thanks for this post. I would love to have more traffic on my site than I have right now. I am on social media such as Facebook, twitter, LinkedIn, google+ and Instagram. They don’t seem to be doing anything to help the traffic going to my site. What am I supposed to be doing with my site on these media. I would really like to know what I am doing wrong or what I am omitting. 

    • Juliet the one ingredient you are probably missing is time – time makes such a huge difference. Every time you publish a new post with good keyword research and proper on page SEO your website gets a little bit stronger in the eyes of Google, every time you share it socially those social signals add up. The older your domain the more search engines will trust it. I know how frustrating it can be but you need to continue with all of these methods and you will start getting traffic. 

  5. I never really thought about doing a giveaway as way to generate website traffic. I understand other methods that you just mentioned. What are some examples that you can do for a giveaway?

    Also, would you do a combination of both a giveaway and list building? I’d figure giving an email in exchange for being entered in to a giveaway is good exchange.

    • Hi Jessie 

      I always do giveaways for the dual purpose of driving more traffic to my website and to build my list. What I do is contact companies in my niche and send them my media kit which shows my website traffic and social media stats, and I ask them to consider sponsoring a giveaway on a post I am writing. It works really well since my stats for my main business are quite good. 

      This way I don’t have to pay anything, just write an article and include the giveaway!

Thank you for this article.  After reading, I have just realised that there is still so much content out there and I have not even tapped ino half of it.  I am also impressed with amount of external and sub external links you have shared and that is another good tip for me.  I am wondering what Google thinks of a post with over 1,600 – 2,000 words.  I am going to do some more research on guest posting and giveaways, its something new to me.

    • Niley long form content will always rule over short content – a while back I read that the majority of content ranked at #1 on Google was 1700+ words. Something to think about right?
