4 Reasons Why Packaging Design is So Important

A lot of companies still don’t realize how important packaging is when it comes to product development. While most understand how it can affect product recognition, there are many other reasons proper packaging should be a priority for your business. Choose the wrong one, and you might find yourself dealing with all sorts of issues you weren’t expecting. Let’s take a look at a few reasons why packaging design is so important for products.

Product packaging Is importnat

Packaging and Your Brand

First of all, packaging will be one of the most important parts of branding. The goal is to make the product stand out from the rest. However, it’s also an indicator of the quality of a product. We can often tell when a product is high-end simply by looking at the packaging. But in other cases, you might want to project an image of frugality. Packaging allows you to create a personal connection with your target audience.

The choice of packaging will affect in many other ways. If you’re wasteful, you will hear from environmentally conscious buyers.  The same goes if you choose unsustainable materials. You want to create a good packaging design that will be clear, transparent, and authentic. You also want it to be in line with your customers’ lifestyle and values.

Logistics

One factor many companies overlook is the logistical impact of poor packaging. Not having enough secondary and tertiary packaging can lead to more damage and higher inventory costs. In other cases, the shape of the packaging can cause shipping issues.

For instance, using cylindrical containers will end up costing you more for shipping than rectangular ones. Why? Because cylindrical containers will leave empty space on a pallet in a way rectangular or boxed shaped packaging won’t. These are all things you may want to consider if you want to keep costs to a minimum.

Good Packaging Design is Informative

The more information people have about a product, the more they are likely to buy. This is especially important if you’re a new brand with not much recognition. All people will have when they see your product on a shelf is what’s on the packaging. Make it descriptive enough and more will be willing to give it a try.

Some of the questions your packaging should answer include who the product is for, what it is used for, why they need the product, and some information about the brand behind the product. Also, you may want to include the product’s provenance depending on the niche.

Packaging Can Add Value

Another thing about packaging is that it can add value to a product. Some can make a product easier to use. Others can increase a product’s shelf life and make it easy to store. For instance, light tends to degrade certain food ingredients, so this is something you may want to consider if you’re in this line of business.

These are all reasons why you need to pay special attention to the packaging you’re going to use for your product. Make sure that you take the time to do your research and look at things beyond the aesthetics.
