What is My Points?

My Points is a shopping rewards program. You can earn points by taking surveys, printing coupons and redeeming them, searching, referring people and playing games. Points can then be exchanged for gift cards, cash or booking a trip. You can also donate cash to charity.

What is My Points

My Points has been around since 1996. They appeared to have been quite a popular company with a great reputation but in later years their reputation has suffered with many people calling them a scam.

Who is My Points for?

Anyone that is 18 years old or older, living in the US or Canada.

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • Free to join
  • Numerous ways to earn

Cons

  • Very low earning potential
  • Hard to get a response from customer services
  • If you do get a response from customer services it is very often unsatisfatory
  • Points sometimes disappear
  • Sometimes points are not allocated

Does My Points offer training?

No there is only an FAQ section if you need to find out how to do something. This is pretty basic stuff though, so no training is needed.

Does My Points offer Support?

Yes as mentioned in the pros and cons they have “support”, but it is sorely lacking. Members of My Points say that it takes a long time for anyone to get back to them, if at all. There also lots of complaints saying that customer service staff at My Points give very unsatisfactory support. Members say the customer support staff lie about problems within the program and pin the blame anywhere they can rather than take some responsibility.

Price

My Points is free to join.

Is My Points a Scam?

Yes I would say so. They certainly don’t conduct themselves very ethically especially when it comes to support and feedback to their members. The fact that points disappear and sometimes aren’t allocated in the first place is very concerning.

Remember that although they are not asking for any money from you, they are wasting your time. Your time is valuable and you can use your time to make money. They are stealing your time by stealing your points.

Here are some complaints about them on the Survey Police website.

How to Earn with My Points?

If you want to know how to earn with My Points, sign up, become an affiliate and sucked other people in. Then hope like mad My Points actually gives you your points and if they do just hope and pray they don’t steal them later.

My Verdict for My Points

I wouldn’t recommend trying My Points. What is the point? If you consider the fact that the earning potential is incredibly low as it is, then your points might not be allocated to you and even if they are they might then disappear at a later time? No thanks this is not for me at all.

Something else to consider if you have seen positive reviews on this program is that they offer points for referrals, so anyone saying this company is probably an affiliate trying to earn money!

As I’ve mentioned before there is nothing wrong with affiliate marketing, hey that’s how I make my money! BUT remember to make sure that you trust the person that is writing the review. There are lots of people that will happily write a glowing review for any scam, no matter how bad it is if they can make earn commission from it.

  1. Thank you for saving me! That is exactly what your site did. I am so glad I researched further into My Points before wasting my time! I am very uninterested in such a low earning potential, so I will move on … On the other hand, I am excited to move forth with such an amazing program as Wealthy Affiliate, and I would also like to check out some of the other programs on the good side of the site. I look forward to more information and programs to learn about 🙂

    • Hi Kaewebb1, so glad I could save you the time and effort with My Points! Yes Wealthy Affiliate is a much better bet, you will be able to launch your own online business and make real money.

  2. “My Points” sounds like a complete waste of time and effort. Good to hear it doesn’t cost anything, or it would be an even bigger scam. It’s always a good indicator that a company is having problems when customer service takes a long time to answer, gives unsatisfactory answers, or just doesn’t bother to answer at all. They’re trying to avoid complaints and queries because they know there are issues within the company and don’t know how to respond to those queries. Sounds like it’s best to stay away from this one.

    • Hi Darren, yes exactly it is very sad and disappointing. I still feel that something can be rated a scam even if they don’t take any money from you. I would rather spend time with my family than waste it trying to make money on a dead end website.

  3. my points sounds like a lot of these programs that make an easy dollar. what sounds most familiar is that sometimes points disappear or you just never receive them after completing something, and then you call the company and they tell you it has nothing to do with them but the other companies. lol. There is far better ways of making money online!!!!

    • Yes, I totally agree! There are just way too many of these types of websites out there.

  4. Hi Lynne, I must admit I have never heard of My Points, but I do know how easy it can be to get conned into joining these kinds of programs. They make it seem so easy – fill out some surveys and earn gifts, cash… I have tried online surveys, but the time it took to complete one, only to find out at the end it was pretty much a scam, was so frustrating. At least no money was lost. Sounds naive of me, but I had never considered the possibility of fake glowing reviews. I know – seems like I was born yesterday. Makes me so angry when people who are just trying to make a living are scammed out of money they can’t afford to lose. Thanks to reviews like yours I’m hopeful these companies will have a harder time and just disappear.

    • Hi Hindy, yes it also makes me irritated with the fake positive reviews and there are so many of them! I fell for that before I saw something and checked a few reviews online and the feedback was very positive so I joined up. A week or so later I realized I was working for nothing and being spammed big time with all sorts of rubbish. On my mobile and via email. I was very disappointed. Now I know to dig a little deeper than one or two good reviews!

  5. Hi Lynne, wow that first complaint even had me a little upset. That if you keep complaining about the same thing, they’ll cut you off? What?!! Horrible! Guess free isn’t quite so free after all ey?

    • Hi May, yes with those complaints you can really feel how those people are feeling and I am sure a lot of people have been conned like that. It really is upsetting that companies can just get away with it. I suppose it is really hard to monitor what is going on online which leaves a breeding ground for scams, con artists and just plain bad ethics.

  6. Hi Lynne,
My Points is typically a time waster program. Other than its free there isn’t any positive in it and according to your review it’s another scam. Your recommendation: Wealthy Affiliate will help people to get started in the best possible place and learn everything they’ll need to make a supplementary or even a full time-income from home! Keep up the good work and all the best to you!

    • Hi Peter, yes another time waster to add to the list. It is so sad that there are so many let downs and scams online in comparison to real opportunities!

  7. Hey Lynne
This is an excellent review and I certainly hope that plenty of people see it! I really dislike this kind of thing – sucking unwary people in with false promises and even more false reviews of scummy products! You really made your ‘point’, LOL! and hopefully saved somebody from wasting a lot of time! Another site like this is ClixSense which I tried for about 10 minutes – it only took me that long to work out that it was a whole bunch of nonsense that paid literally pennies – no…not even pennies…for an awful waste of time.
As you say – it would be far better to spend time on something legit like the Wealthy Affiliate program you suggest!
Thanks for writing an honest review
    Cheers
    Ellie

    • Hi Ellie, yes I have heard of ClixSense and will be reviewing them as soon as I get the chance. This My Points is very much a let down. The thing is even if you did get all your points you would still not be making enough to make it worth your while, so it is pointless anyway!

  8. My Points doesn’t seem like a well kept program and I have never been into making small chunks before so this is definitely not for me.

I’ve heard a few of these shopping reward sites before and now am quite interested to know what is the best one in your opinion?

    Thanks in advance!

    • Hi Anh

I don’t believe their is much money at all to be made with Rewards Programs. However if you want to try out good rewards programs then have a look at Swagbucks and Qmee.
